A lot of those annoying plastic packages from groceries can be repurposed into plant pots. Egg cartons can be used to start seeds. The zero waste scene has a lot of ideas for using the crap that comes with things you need to buy anyways, and also using the parts of food you'd normally throw out. Some produce can be regrown from scraps, in the makeshift pots. But with the plastic stuff, it's a balance between minimizing what you put in the landfill and having your apartment look like a landfill.

We creative types save everything and then we say..."What am I going to do with all this????"

My father used to say he appreciated everything he had. He saved different kinds of boards etc...too.

Those large PVC pipes would make good pieces for a hydroponics project or vertical gardening project. That old frame that came apart could make a great greenhouse frame, or shade cloth cover for sensitive plants, or handy for having a trellis hang from for growing beans and other vining plants.

Thanks for the encouragement. I am so tempted to have a hauler come pick up all I may deem useless, then the men around the area, come, choose and extract those valuable articles they need.!

I love this. I scavenge scrap metal bars and struts from the maintenance scrap at work that seem to be a component for a project I have in mind. My partner gets frustrated with the clutter, but when I pull the perfect material out of my stash, he has to admit that it really isn't junk. I let him grumble, and I clear out things that have not made it into the intended projects. FYI: many scrap yards pay double on earth day, but it is very busy. Happy collecting!
