I agree, start small. But be aware... It is addictive. My first herb was rosemary. My neighbor gave me a small plant. It is almost impossible to kill!

Every year I grow something that I have never tried to grow before. Last year it was Diakon radishes (huge hit at our house). This year it is sweet potatoes. I grew 32 slips from two sweet potatoes.

One year I grew basil plants, about eight big bushes. I picked off the flowers at the top and the basil plants grew bigger.

I am working on growing strawberries. I have a pot sitting on the steps and it's growing strawberries pretty good.

A long time ago I put plants on the south windowsill and I had a bazillion ants come out of the cracks by the window. I live in an apartment so I didn't know what to do and I have never grown plants there again. I may try again though just to have plants inside. My mom never cooked with herbs and I usually don't use them either. I do choose to grow greens outside and share them with other folks too. I am getting ready to plant Kale and Spinach tomorrow. The peas are doing well. Then onto green beans and carrots.
